PILIPINAS Obstacle Sports Federation (POSF) president Alberto Agra is looking forward to holding an obstacle course racing in Baguio City after the pandemic.

Agra in a recent visit to the Summer Capital said the city can be an ideal venue for obstacle course racing (OCR) because of its terrain.

The POSF chief said he is eyeing a partnership with Virago Sports and Recreational Camp as venue for training, regular clinics and events for OCR.

"Yun naman ang challenge, to look for a place na accessible at big enough to accommodate races," said Agra during the opening of Virago, a sprawling 3.6-hectare downhill and cross country biking area that includes an archery range and trail running course in Loakan Proper.

Agra added the site can be suitable as obstacle course can be done anywhere.

"Bundok, urban set up or park or oval or beach or basketball court, kahit saan pwedeng magkaroon ng obstacle course. Maganda yung ganito para mas challenging kasi the terrain itself is an obstacle, added challenge for the athletes," added Agra.

Despite the challenges of the pandemic, Agra said the country's top OCR athletes continue their training and has been joining races virtually.

"Tuloy ang training virtually and they join virtual races every month. We're looking forward to actual races," added Agra.

Just recently, Sandi Abahan, OCR gold medalists during the recent Southeast Asian Games, together with fellow Baguio elite trail runners James Tellias, Robert Watson, and Sunshine Briones, topped the Asia Trail Girls (ATG) vertical virtual race besting 143 other groups from 17 countries in the competition.

The group gained a total accumulated elevation of 120,228 meters of vertical runs in 10 days which they conducted in various places in the city and recorded through the Strava application.

The race was held from August 15 to 24.

Tellias and Abahan both placed second in the men and women category with the former gaining a total of 33,994-meter elevation while the latter recorded a 27,878-meter elevation.
