A MULTI-AWARDED Cebuano writer, Dr. Resil Mojares, will be conferred the country's highest recognition for the arts, as he was named the 2018 National Artist for Literature for his significant contributions in the development of the Philippine literature.

His colleague, Jose Eleazar Bersales of the University of San Carlos (USC), announced this in a Facebook post Tuesday, October 23.

"This is a historic and proud moment for all Cebuanos all over the world, the first-ever Cebuano to become a National Artist!!!" said Bersales.

Mojares was nominated for the award by USC Cebuano Studies Center director Dr. Hope Yu and the USC administration, added Bersales.
