A PHILOSOPHER once defined truth to be “conformity of facts to reality.”
Most Filipinos today are in great awe as to what is really the truth in all matters and issues. We no longer know who speaks the truth. It seems that truth has become relative and no longer universal or absolute.
Take the case of the De Lima-Duterte conflict. Who is really telling the truth? We have to be and should be ashamed with what we are doing to the young generation observing us play with the truth. When we listen to De Lima and her cute little witness, one could really say that there is indeed a death squad operating in Davao. When one listens to the Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre during the House investigation, one could also say that De Lima is a protector of drug syndicate during her stint as “Queen of Justice.”
We hear people say that “truth hurts.” This is the very reason why many people cover the truth. They are afraid of it because it will surely bite. Looking at things, it seems that the players of the administration are really protecting their “king.” The “king” is not afraid of losing his position. But his friends are really afraid of losing him lest, they lose their positions. They are now trying to divert the issue. They should have left De Lima to drown in all the lies that her kid is telling. They should have allowed the truth to come out. They could drown in their lies and could even be imprisoned for obstruction of justice. But if what they are saying are true, then let the other party face the music.
Meanwhile, the House investigation on the alleged drug lord protection of De Lima is underway. If proven that De Lima received money from the drug lords, then she could be charged and imprisoned after charges will be filed agsinst her. She might even lose her post as senator. Secretary Aguirre and the allies of President Rodrigo Duterte should present more witnesses linking De Lima to the drug lords, or they might be accused of derailing the Senate investigation.
rWhile all these are ongoing, President Duterte is out and correcting the books of history. Erasing the beautiful lies of the US and Europe in our textbooks. The President exposed a lot of unwritten history of the atrocities done by the Americans to the Philippines after they have taken our lands in the early 1900’s and Europe’s colonization of the Philippines in the late 1800’s.
They have mercilessly killed the native Filipinos and Spaniards in the name of colonization and useless treatises. Now, all these are exposed upon their faces by no less than, President Duterte. They have to face the truth and to face this requires great humility for these great nations.
What is the truth? Where is the truth? Are we with the truth?
