Greywolves keep semis hope alive

DON Bosco Greywolves has kept semi-finals hope alive, as they beat the University of Cebu Junior Webmasters in a do or die game 77-64 on Sunday, September 25, at the New Cebu Coliseum.

The Greywolves went on a shooting display early in the game, closing the first quarter with a 10-point lead, 17-7.

In the second quarter, the Greywolves continue to attack the basket, extending the lead to 21, closing the first half, 41-20, against Junior Webmasters.

In the third quarter, the Junior Webmasters were able to cut the lead down to 11, with tight defense, leading to steals then converting it into easy points, score 60-49.

The Junior Webmasters were getting their rhythm as Gelmart Umpad got fouled out with 6:03 left in the ball game, leaving the Grey Wolves up by 10, 65-55.

The Grey Wolves went for risky long passes as the Junior Webmasters continue to apply full court pressure, converting it into inside baskets for Al Mendez and Miguel Dela Torre.

The Junior Webmasters, however, led by Gelmart Umpad with 13 points and six steals, followed by John Cuyos with 12 points and two steals, and Kyle Ordeniza with 11 points and five steals, tried to keep up with the Grey Wolves but fell short to the latter's inside plays.

JB Gamolo led the Greywolves with a double-double performance, 11 points and 10 assists, allowing four Greywolves in double digits: Al Mendez with 17, Miguel Dela Torre and Jan Mangaron with 13 both, and Grenal Malubay with 12.

Both teams will meet again in a do or die battle for the ticket to semifinals since the Junior Webmasters have the twice to beat advantage, on Thursday, September 29, at the New Cebu Coliseum.
