LA CARLOTA City Mayor Luis Jalandoni III said Sunday that he already lifted the cease and desist order on Roxol Bioenergy Corp. (RBC) after the foul odor coming from its plant in Barangay Nagasi was already addressed.
Jalandoni said the order was lifted last week between September 20 and 22, but the operations of RBC was still suspended due to maintenance repairs of its plant.
They will resume operations on the second week of October, the mayor added.
Jalandoni said he issued the 30-day suspension on September 9 against RBC, the bioethanol subsidiary of Roxas Holdings Inc., after its plant emitted a foul odor, which affected eight barangays of the city.
The affected areas were Barangays 1, 2, 3, Ayungon, Nagasi, Cubay, RSB, and part of Batuan, he added.
The mayor said the monitoring team of the City Government inspected the operations of the plant before he issued the suspension order, adding that they also monitored how the plant addressed the problem to make sure it’s not going to emit odor.
He said the odor was coming from the waste material of the alcohol.
Even if he already lifted the CDO, Jalandoni still warned the management to make sure it’s not going to happen again, or else he will have the plant permanently closed.
Lawyer Florencio Mamauag Jr., RBC vice president and legal and corporate affairs compliance officer, had earlier said that the company is committed to institute long-term solutions to address the issue, adding that they suspended their operations right away to immediately address the foul odor.
