A COUSIN of the fallen suspected drug lord Rowen “Yawa” Secretaria was killed in an encounter with the police yesterday morning.

The police were going after Rolan Secretaria in connection with the fatal shooting of a second-year junior high school student in Sitio Lawis, Barangay Pasil, Cebu City last Saturday dawn.

Rolan was also a suspected drug pusher, was on the Carbon police team’s list and had a pending warrant of arrest. Among his two suspected cohorts during the shooting was Yawa’s younger brother, Michael Secretaria, 32.

Chief Insp. Keith Allen Andaya, the Pasil Police Station head, said that Rolan and his two accomplices had shot the 14-year-old boy because they had problems with his girlfriend.

John Karl Diada was with his 13-year-old girlfriend and their friends on a bridge that connects Ermita and Pasil when three of Rolan’s men—identified as Michael, Gerald Flores and Daryl Abanto—arrived and allegedly took turns shooting Diada.

Operatives from the Carbon and Sawang police stations went after the suspects but Rolan allegedly fired at the police team at 8 a.m. yesterday.

Nakakablit siya’g kaupat pero maayo gani wala nakabuto (He managed to pull the trigger four times but the gun didn’t fire),” Andaya told Sun.Star Cebu.

Armed

Recovered from Rolan were a .45 pistol with one magazine loaded with four bullets, a.38 with six bullets, 40 small sachets of shabu in his pocket, and P4,200 cash.

Michael and the two others fled after they saw the approaching operatives.

An hour after the confrontation, they surrendered at the Ermita Barangay Hall to Captain Felicisimo Rupinta, bringing their guns. They said they feared that the police would shoot them next.

“They were positively identified by the victim’s girlfriend as the one who killed him. Gitudlo gud sila. Nasagpaan gud sila’s kabanay (She identified them. The boy’s parents slapped them),” the Pasil chief said.

Michael turned over his Uzi submachine gun with 25 bullets, while Gerald Flores surrendered a .38 with five bullets and Daryl Abanto handed over a .38 loaded with four bullets.

The three, however, denied the allegations against them.

Kung di mi mo surrender, patyon man mi. Wala mi’s lugar pagpusil atong bataa (If we didn’t surrender, we’d get killed next. We were not in that area when that teenager got shot),” Michael told Sun.Star Cebu.

Record

Michael had surrendered to the Police Station 5 in their Oplan Tokhang last July 1, five weeks after Rowen’s death on May 27 in the island of Banacon in Bohol.

Andaya said that they are also validating reports that the group was involved in the killing of street pushers in the area.

“One hundred percent, nakab-ot na nato ang hustisya (We have achieved justice for the boy’s death),” he said.

Diada had no bad records in Barangay Ermita and the Pasil police.

Cebu City Acting Mayor Edgardo Labella said the developments were welcome.

He said the illegal drug problem has become alarming because of the alleged involvement of certain public officials and police officers who are supposed to uphold the law.

He said those public officials and police officers that connived with drug lords should be punished.

Ako lang i-urge nga (I urge that) it should be properly investigated and they should be given their day in court,” Labella added.
