NHCP to unveil BSU historical marker

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- The Benguet State University historical marker is set to be unveiled on September 27 as part of the institution’s Centennial Anniversary celebration.

The historical marker will be unveiled by National Historical Commission of the Philippines Deputy Executive Director for Programs and Projects Veronica Dado together with the BSU officials led by Dr. Feliciano Calora at the Centennial Park of the university. It will be followed by the signing of the certificate of transfer.

The NHCP declared BSU as a national historical site earlier this year after meeting all the requirements such as 50 years prescription and 70 percent authenticity of structures and significant events.

It continually expanded its services and the college was converted to a state university in 1986. It continued to grow and was awarded SUC Level IV which is described as excellent in undertaking the full range of functions of a state university/college; namely, instruction, research and extension manifested through teaching effectiveness, research competence, active community service, and efficient management of resources.

The NHCP is the national government agency mandated to promote and preserve Philippine historical heritage through research and publication, conservation and marking of historic sites and structures, and administration of national shrines and museums.

Aside from historical marker unveiling, BSU will also conduct a centennial tour on September 27. It will be followed by the Community Jamboree at BSU.

On September 30, BSU will hold a Eucharistic mass at the BSU gymnasium to be followed by a tree planting activity and the opening of exhibits and the program proper.

With the theme “BSU at 100: Going Global: The Centennial Challenge”, Calora said the institution is trying its best to achieve world class standards with its vision of becoming a premier university delivering world-class education that promotes sustainable development amidst climate change.
