Jail guards undergo drug test

THE Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) have conducted a drug test to its 101 officials and personnel assigned at the Zamboanga City Reformatory Center (ZCRC) to erase suspicion that some of them are using illegal drugs.

Chief Inspector Ervin Diaz, ZCRC jail warden, said the drug test, which was conducted on Monday, September 26, is in compliance with the Oplan Rody of BJMP Director Serafin Barretto, Jr.

Diaz said “R” stands for “removal” and punishment of scalawag officers and personnel involved in illegal drugs, “O” is “Offensive” operation versus illegal drugs operating inside jail facilities and dismantling of “kubol”, “D” is for “Jail Decongestion and Disbandment” of inmate gangs protecting drug lords and “Y” is “Yes” for discipline and control of inmates through effective classification and segregation of inmates with drug cases and close monitoring of detained drug lords.

Diaz said that Oplan Rody is also in support to the anti-drug campaign of President Rodrigo Duterte aimed to make the Philippines a drug-free country.

Diaz said there are 101 BJMP personnel consisting of 80 males and 21 females detailed at the ZCRC have undergone drug test.

The drug test of personnel was conducted in coordination with the Regional Crime Laboratory-Zamboanga of the Philippine National Police based at Camp Batalla in Zamboanga city.

Diaz said those who will yield positive result will be subjected to confirmatory test.

The result, once positive during the confirmatory test, will be referred to the BJMP’s legal department for the filing of administrative and criminal cases against erring BJMP personnel.

He said the conduct of drug test is a commitment that the ZCRC is a drug-free facility and “its personnel is living in a clean lifestyle.”
