Baguio archers haul 10 medals in Dumaguete tiff

BAGUIO archers hit their mark in the second qualifying leg of the Philippine Archery Cup held in Dumaguete City after collecting five gold, three silvers and two bronze medals.

Philippine team member Kareel Meer Hongitan led Baguio’s charge after scooping two gold medals in the recurve division.

Hongitan also took home two gold medals during the first leg of the tournament held in Koronadal City earlier this year.

Para archers Agustina Bantiloc, Giovanni Ola and Allan Campos complemented Hongitan’s performance with one gold and one silver each in the para-recurve division.

Quintin Tanseco and Carl Ramirez of Pandora’s Box Archery Range in the city were able to pocket two bronzes in the barebow category failing to sustain their gold and silver medal finish in Koronadal City.

Baguio City High School archer Adrienne Ysabel Parayno who won a bronze medal in the girl’s Bowman category dropped to 4th place while her fellow Resha Dawn Ronquillo trails at 7th place.

PNG gold medal archer Caelan Nicholas Saval on the other hand was ranked 5th out of 12 competitors in the junior boy’s category while Jireh Oroscoh also ranked 5th in the girl’s division.

Jericho Dienzo finished 17th out of 25 participants in cadet boy’s.

“Dienzo was not able to perform well due to equipment failure,” BAC coach John Hongitan said.

The third leg of PAC is scheduled in November and the National Sports Association (NSA) and the World Archery Philippines (WAP) as organizers are working for the finalization of the venue, which is being eyed here in the Summer Capital.

“The individual scores of the athletes from the first, second and third qualifying legs will be computed by the organizers and will be the basis if they will get a shot in the national competition next year,” Hongitan explained.

PAC serves as a grassroots screening process for archers who may be qualified to represent the country in the Kuala Lumpur Southeast Asian Games (SEAG) in August next year.
