Peace forum to be held on September 30

NEGROS Oriental will cap the observance of the National Peace Consciousness Month with a peace forum on September 30 at the Provincial Convention Center, Dumaguete City.

The activity, spearheaded by Bantay Bayanihan, banners the theme, "Empowering women as peace builders and enhancing their active participation in GAD fund planning toward responsive programs, activities and projects on gender 7 VAWC issues, including establishment of women-led community-based social enterprises."

September has been declared as the month of peace pursuant to Presidential Proclamation 675, issued in 2004, for its number of peace milestones that occurred during the month.

During the event, series of topics will be presented to hundreds of local and National Government employees, schools, non-government organizations representatives, which include peace efforts by security services of the Philippine Army, policy on anti-child labor and abuse with the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole), milestone in Gender and Development (GAD) implementation of the Provincial Council for Women.

The peace forum will also tackle the Magna Carta of Women with Department of Social Welfare and Development officer-in-charge Director Shalaine Lucero, and Gad Fund: Its Purpose and Utilization, and Social Enterprise case study by Visayan Forum.

Expected to participate and deliver messages are Governor Roel Degamo, Major General Harold Cabreros of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, 3rd Infantry Division Lieutenant Commander Roderick Garcia of the 79IB, Police Chief Superintendent Renato Gumban of Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region, with Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office Chief Nestor Tiempo.
