Highland boxers eye OPBF title in Cavite

TWO boxers from the Highland Boxing Gym in La Trinidad will gun for the championship in a double Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation bout slated September 30 in Bacoor, Cavite.

Highland Boxing promoter Brico Santig said boxers Ryan Lumacad and Jeronel Borres are set for an eight rounds match-up in the event dubbed "Knock Out".

The undefeated Lumacad holding record of 11 wins with six KOs and a draw is set to clash with former OPBF flyweight champion Ardin Diale (31W-10L-3D-15KOs) of Malungon, Sarangani Province for the vacant OPBF Silver flyweight title.

"Lumacad is a native of General Santos City but he trains in our stable in La Trinidad," Santig said.

Meantime, another undefeated Highland Stable boxer Borres who hails from Camiguin is set to face former World Boxing Council International light flyweight and WBC Asian Boxing light flyweight champion Richard Claveras.

Borres has seven wins with five KOs and one draw in his professional boxing career.

“Our fighters will be facing giants in the OPBF championship but we hope to give a good fight,” Santig said.

The OPBF championship will be headlined by former London Olympics boxer Mark Anthony Barriga of Panabo City against former WBC Asia contender Powell Balaba of Tagbilaran, Bohol.

Rey Megrino (22-20-4), also of Highland Boxing Gym, meanwhile is set for a Top Rank Promotion boxing match in Hongkong on October 8. Megrino is scheduled to square off against Jason Butar-Butar (20-18-1) for a non-title fight.
