Young bloods rule Baguio Day fun run

STUDENTS dominated the different race categories during the Baguio Day Fun Run slated on September 24 as part of the month long city's charter anniversary.

Baguio City High School’s Hussein Lorana bagged first prize in the 3K boys category finishing the race in 10 minutes and 38 seconds with a slim difference from the second winner Hassan Lorana with 10 minutes and 41 seconds while Prince Harvey Batuon of San Vicente clocked 12:58 to finish third.

In the girls division, Claire Dumulag finished first with a time of 14:36 followed by Lalaine Basilo at 14:42 and Cyrille Paranes with 14:58. All top three runners were from San Vicente.

In the 5K men’s division, Reymark Quezada finished first with 17:39, Melvin Madungit finished second with 17:49 while Ciello Penaflor finished third with 19:24.

In the women’s division, Aira Mae Gali bagged first place at 21:49 followed by Cristine Taruc in second place with 22:36 while Sisa Caronongan finished third with 24:31.

In the 10K category, Cesar Castaneto Jr., finished first with 41:11 edging Michael Tolac who finished second with 42:59 while Cudli Castro finished third with 43:59.

Christabel Martes dominated the distaff side checking in at 47:45 followed by Gretchen Felipe with a time of 53:16 while Leda Ramos finished third with 59:72.

All winners received cash prizes and medals, according to Paul Rillorta of the City Sports and Development Office.

The fun run is now on its third year as part of the charter celebration activities to raise funds and aid dialysis patients including veteran journalist Ramon Dacawi.

However, Rillorta said the city government is yet to determine the amount of funds raised from the activity.

In 2014, the fun run raised P312,000 and the following year, it generated P160,222 all of which went to supporting kidney patients in their change of fistula, hospitalization and other needs.
