CCTV installation pushed in Trading Post

IN A bid to beef up security along the La Trinidad Vegetable Trading Post, the municipal council is asking a cooperative to install CCTV cameras along strategic areas.

Proposed by councilor Roderick Awingan, the measure seeks the help of La Trinidad Vegetable Trading Post Multi-Purpose Cooperative thru its manager Atanacio Atayoc for the donation and installation of CCTV's.

Awingan said installing CCTV’s, particularly within the trading post area will help curb crimes and protect stakeholders in the area.

Police records reveal theft remains the common crimes committed in the area.

Awingan added more CCTV’s will also be installed in other parts of the municipality to help in the peace and order drive of the municipality.

The La Trinidad Trading Post is an economic enterprise of the municipality, which provides an average annual income of P30million giving livelihood opportunities for thousands of citizens.

In 2014, a municipal council ordinance has been approved requiring business establishments in the municipality to put up CCTV.

Banks, terminals and staging stations, night spots and restaurants, department stores, malls, grocery stores, convenience stores, gas filling stations, depots, hospitals and clinics operating in the municipality are required to install CCTVs in bid to prevent commission or even solve crimes.

The system must have minimum specifications such as having one dedicated channel for each camera operation with, at least, 64 x 480 recording resolution.

Installation should produce recognizable, retrievable, enlargeable and reproducible images of people.

All business owners are required to keep and preserve the daily CCTV recordings for a minimum of 30 days.

The ordinance prohibits unauthorized viewing, unauthorized public identification of images of people in the recording and unauthorized deletion.

Violation of the ordinance will be penalized with fines ranging from P1,000 to P2,500 or revocation of their business permits. (Elamae Membrere)
