Pushers killed in shootout

TWO drug pushers were killed by authorities Wednesday afternoon during a drug buy bust operation in Lower Tomay, La Trinidad Benguet.

The fatalities were identified as Jerry Toda and Allan Lorenzano who were known drug personalities in Buguias town, also in Benguet province.

In a police report, operatives of the La Trinidad Municipal Police Station, the Regional Intelligence Unit, Provincial Anti-Illegal Drug Unit conducted the buy bust but the suspects, upon sensing they were transacting with the police, immediately tried to escape using their vehicle.

The suspects, added the police report, upon reaching the area suddenly stopped and fired shots at the chasing police officers resulting to the shoot out.

Lorenzano was shot and died on the spot, while Toda who was already wounded tried to escape and jumped in a 100-meter ravine. He was later on found dead.

According to Superintendent Jaime Rodrigo Leal, chief of the Scene of the Crime Operatives, Lorenzano had gunshot wound in his chest, while Toda had gunshot wounds in the head, face and legs as per initial examination.

Police Chief Inspector Radino Belly, La Trinidad Municipal Police Station chief, said recovered from the suspects were a caliber .45, caliber .38 including several ammunitions including four pieces of small heat sealed transparent plastic sachet containing white crystalline substance believed to be shabu, one piece small heat sealed transparent plastic containing white residue, three pieces of heat sealed transparent plastic sachet containing suspected marijuana and two pieces matchboxes containing suspected marijuana.

Belly said Toda and Lorenzano were the first drug personalities who were killed in a legitimate police operations, while six others were murdered by still unidentified suspects since the war against drug was intensified by authorities upon assumption of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Authorities also arrested Melchor Flores Dasmariñas of Cuyapo, Nueva Ecija during a joint operations by the Buguias Municpal Police Station, Provincila Public Safety Company, Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations, Provincial Intelligence Branch, Regional Intelligence Unit, and the Criminal Investigation and Detention Group.

Investigation disclosed Dasmariñas has been under the drug watch list of the police.

Confiscated and seized from the suspect were one heat-sealed transparent plastic sachet containing white crystalline substance suspected to be shabu weighing 0.80 grams worth P1,000 , two P500 bill used as buy-bust money, one P100 bill, two P50 bill and one colored orange plastic lighter.
