A 64-YEAR-OLD motorcycle driver died after he was hit by a cargo truck in Barangay Yati, Liloan town, northern Cebu last Thursday afternoon.
Concordio Mangilaya succumbed to severe head and body injuries.
Investigation conducted by SPO2 Raul Flores showed that both vehicles were traveling on the southbound lane.
When they arrived in front of a motor store, the truck (GXH-213) driven by Robert Longcob Litardo, 25, sideswiped the motorcycle (GG-7450) of the victim.
Mangilaya fell on the road. Litardo allegedly did not step on the brakes of the truck, which later ran over the victim’s head and body.
Litardo told the traffic investigators that he did not notice Mangilaya.
After he was told he killed someone, Litardo sped off to neighboring Consolacion town and surrendered to the police personnel who then turned him over to the Liloan Police Station.
A complaint of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide will be filed against the truck driver before the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor if no settlement will be reached.
Meanwhile, a 70-year-old farmer surrendered to the police after he hacked his son in Sitio Palaypay, Barangay Tolosa, Malabuyoc town, southern Cebu.
Pedro Carpina Rivas told the police he got mad at Jaybe, 32, after the latter challenged him to a fight for no apparent reason.
They attended a birthday party of their neighbor before the incident last Tuesday afternoon.
Irked, Rivas grabbed a bolo and hacked his son in different parts of his body.
Jaybe was rushed to a hospital in Alegria town, before he was transferred to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City.
