ILIGAN CITY -- More than 20,000 Roman Catholic devotees braved the rains Thursday, September 29, to take part in the 6 a.m. procession in honor of Senior San Miguel the Archangel, the city’s patron saint.

Police Senior Superintendent Leony Roy Ga, Iligan City Police Director, said the procession was without incident.

Ga said Police Regional Office (PRO)-Northern Mindanao director Chief Superintendent Noel Constantino commended the Iligan City Police Office (Icpo) for the joint security measures with the police and military in the month-long Diyandi celebration.

Constantino directed the ICPO to sustain the security tightening measures to prevent and preempt security threats in the city .

“We deployed at least 300 PNP (Philippine National Police) personnel aside from the force multipliers and the military forces under 103rd Mechanized Infantry Brigade of the Philippine Army," Ga said.

Ga said K-9 teams and Explosive Ordnance and Detection Team with the Emergency Rescue Units were properly deployed in strategic areas to deter crime.

"We expressed our gratitude to the commuters who bared with us during the conduct of checkpoints wherein some of them got delayed in their travel but we have to do our responsibility,” Ga said. (RVU)
