AN AGRICULTURAL fair and a lechon parade at the historical Plaza Pershing marked the start on Saturday of the 2016 Zamboanga Hermosa Festival in Zamboanga City.
City Agriculturist Diosdado Palacat said the agricultural fair dubbed as Cosechas de Zamboanga aims to provide local farmers to showcase their products.
Palacat said most of the farm produce being showcased are high-breed agricultural products, which are sold at cheaper prices.
He said the farmers were encouraged to plant high-breed vegetables and corn as it yield larger produce compared to native ones.
Palacat said, with high yields, the income of the farmers have also increased, citing a hectare of high-breed corn produces 150 to 200 sacks of 50 kilos each.
City Veterinarian Mario Arriola said nine local roasted pig business operators have joined in the first ever lechon parade to be held in this city.
Arriola said the lechon parade is to showcase that Zamboanga City sells the cheapest roasted pig compared to other areas in the country.
Arriola said the parade is also aimed to promote camaraderie among the roasted pig business stakeholders.
The Zamboanga Hermosa is the grandest festival the highlight of which is the feast day of Our Lady of the Pillar, the most revered saint of this city on October 12.
