DOG lovers and breeders gathered at the SM Seaside City Sky Hall for the “All Breed Championship Dog Show” last Sept. 24-25.
The two-day event featured 18 different purebred dogs from the smallest breed of dogs like Chihuahua, Shih-tzu, Pug and French Bulldog to herding dogs like German Shepherd and Welsh Corgi.
Other dogs like the Labrador retriever, Alaskan malamute, Chowchow, Pomeranian, Samoyed, Siberian Husky, Bulldog, Doberman, Miniature Pinscher, Dalmatian, Rhodesian Ridgeback and Terrier also participated in the show.
According to Jimmy Chua, the president of Federation of Rottweiler Friends (FRF) here in Cebu, the show was organized as a means for dog breeders to assess their dog’s breeding quality. “This dog show doesn’t just focus on the dog winners, but actually for the breeders to have professional evaluation with regards to their current breeding program.”
Fiddylou R. Villamor, one of the members of FRF, explained the nature of their dog show. “It’s a breed show that serves as a blueprint for a dog breeder. Each breed of dogs has its own written standard which the judges decide on. The overall structure and physical appearance of a dog determines the ideality of its breed,” Villamor expounded.
King, a French bulldog, won the “Best of Breed” title and was hailed as the best dog among other French bulldog participants. His owner, Jeff Ramos, expressed his delight with the success of the whole event. “I feel happy and at the same time fulfilled, because aside from King’s achievement, I met local and professional breeders and learned from their own breeding experiences; I think it’s the best part of every dog show.”
Chua admitted that hosting dog shows is never easy, but as a dog lover himself, it’s self-accomplishment especially when it ends successfully. “Dog shows take a lot of preparations and expenses but we want to keep all-breed dog shows going, so we will,” Chua concluded.
