Costanilla: Raki Vega to come home for religious concert

TELESERIES. There’s a brand-new Cebuano teleseries that will start airing tonight over Cebu Catholic Television Network (CCTN) channel 47. I understand that this nightly 30-minute presentation will dwell on the importance of getting an education despite various challenges and problems besetting an individual. This teleseries is under the initiative of Dr. Paulus Mariae Cañete, president of the original Mandaue City College.

He said the nightly treat–titled Parasan sa Kaalam—is designed to encourage the young to strive hard and be serious in their studies.

Rough translation of Parasan sa Kaalam is Vineyard of Knowledge.

COMMENDABLE. To me, Cañete, being the teleseries producer, should be commended for coming up with this project.

As an educator, it is understandable that he gives premium and importance on someone, despite his poverty, getting an education to ensure his/her bright future. The scriptwriter is Deborah Sta. Cruz while Tess Diez is the production coordinator. Parasan sa Kaalam airs Monday to Friday, 8 to 8:30 p.m.

SHOW. Come Oct. 7, some local talents will do a show dedicated to the Miraculous Mama Mary of Simala in Barangay Lindogon, Sibonga. This presentation is actually part of the very first holy visit of the Virgin’s statue to the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño. On that day, the feast of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary, the statue will be welcomed with a concelebrated mass at 12 noon at the International Eucharistic Congress pavilion. Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma will be the main presider. In the evening, the show will take place in the same venue. It’s a concert that we should not miss.

TALENTS. Who are the talents that will entertain all of us on Oct. 7? To me, it’s a powerhouse of artists that include Raki Vega, Girlie Laspiñas, Izarzuri Vidal, Fr. Jonas Mejares, Mandaue Children’s Choir and Sakdap (Gani Villarojo, Irving Guazon, Josil Mariño and Henry Jabonero). On The Cover Band will provide the live accompaniment. The entire show will be produced by Gani and Gloria Villarojo of Soundtraxx Production Studio.

DEVOTEE. Yes, Raki is one of the performers. While she is presently based in Hong Kong as a stage actress in Disneyland, she will purposely come home for the concert. After all, Raki is a Marian devotee even as a child.

For the show tickets, call telephone number 412-3455 and look for Bebe Arnoco. The different parishes are also selling the tickets.

CINEMATHEQUE. I hope the plan to put up a cinematheque in Cebu will push through, as planned by the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP). It is thinking of a cinematheque here which will serve as a motion picture hub for Bisaya classic and contemporary movies. I am praying that FDCP is not paying lip service. It should prove that this particular move is realizable or doable. Let’s wait and see.
