Iligan’s tartanilla's take center stage

THE JCI Iligan, Inc. has once again conducted a successful event that made Iligan City’s Diyandi Festival livelier.

The Kasadya sa Tartanilla Year 2 Series 3, done from September 20 to 27, was organized to help promote and preserve the cultural aspect of the Filipinos considering that there are only four places in the Philippines where a horse-drawn carriage, known as tartanilya, continue to be used as public transport.

"One of the major thrusts or areas of opportunity of JCI Iligan, Inc. is the Community and we would like to help uplift the income of our Kucheros and to promote and preserve the cultural aspect. That's why we came up with this project, Kasadya sa Tartanilla," said Jay-R Salang, this year's chairman of Kasadya sa Tartanilla project.

Aside from the experience of riding the Tartanilla, the JCI Iligan, Inc., organized the event into a competition where tartanillas were spiced and dressed up by adding decors and lights.

The tartanillas’ kucheros were also encouraged to be ambassadors by promoting Iligan as part of the project.

This project was already adjudged by the JCI Philippines as the Area 5 2016 Best Cultural Development Program which was started years ago as Kasadya Sa Tartanilla ‘Parada Pahayaga’: A Mindanao Cultural Pride.

"This project is in partnership with the City Local Government, Cooperative Development Local Office (CDLO) and the City Tourism Office. It was highly acclaimed and patronized by the public, Iliganons and visitors alike. As a result, this project has helped a lot in uplifting the income of our Kucheros," said Arthur L. Sabilla, this year's chairman of the committee on promotion for Kasadya sa Tartanilla.
