Minor shot dead in Lapu-Lapu

A 16-YEAR-OLD girl was shot dead while she was with her friends in Barangay Mactan, Lapu-Lapu City last Sunday night.

Maris Yayon, a Grade 9 student, suffered a gunshot wound on her neck after she was shot by a suspect only known as “Ranz” for reasons unknown past 9 p.m.

Initially, a police officer of the Lapu-Lapu Police Station 2, called the Lapu-Lapu Police Office Homicide Section about a dead person in Sitio Ibapo, Mactan.

PO2 Dan Palacio Gacoscosim, investigator of the Homicide Section, said the victim together with her friends went to a fair in the area before the incident.

Yayon, who is a resident of Barangay Punta Engaño in Lapu-Lapu City, and his colleagues were taking shelter from the rain in an eatery when the suspect came and shot her.

She was brought to the Lapu-Lapu City Hospital, but was declared dead by the attending physician.

Authorities were not able to recover any cartridge in the crime scene, and thus the suspect possibly used a revolver, said Gacoscosim.

One of Yayon’s friends was able to identify the gunman after police officers of Lapu-Lapu Police Station 2 showed the suspect’s image through his Facebook account with the name “Rhanzboy Mc’Danalds.”

One of the pictures of the suspect’s Facebook account showed a .357 Magnum revolver.

Police were still conducting follow-up operations to arrest the gunman.
