Witness reveals alleged close ties between Dayan, Jaguar

RONNIE Dayan, the former driver and bodyguard of Senator Leila de Lima, had made transactions with alleged Central Visayas drug lord Jeffrey "Jaguar" Diaz until the latter died this year, an inmate-witness revealed during a House probe on Thursday.

During the interpellation of Kabayan party-list Representative Harry Roque to inmate Engelberto Durano in the House hearing on drug proliferation in the New Bilibid Prison (NBP), Durano said Dayan transacted business with Diaz until his death last June 17.

"Hanggang sa namatay si Jaguar tuloy yung relasyon nila," he told the House committee on justice.

The convicted murderer added that Dayan and Diaz's communication did not stop since Dayan first called the drug lord in January 2014.

"Simula nung tumawag siya, walang putol ang ugnayan nila," he said.

Durano said that Dayan during the call reportedly asked Jaguar for "protection money."

According to Durano, he knows the transaction of Dayan and Diaz as he has the copy of all the deposit slips. He earlier disclosed that the total deposit to the account of Dayan amounts to P27.3 million.

"Lahat ng mga deposit slip na ipapadala ni Jaguar kay Ronnie binibigay sakin...Kaya lang nung nagkaron ng searching nakuha yan, pero nailista ko," the inmate said.

Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II said the DOJ will request the Anti Money Laundering Council (AMLC) to open the bank accounts allegedly owned by Dayan.

Aside from Diaz, inmate Durano also tagged other Visayas top drug trader Kerwin Espinosa in the illegal drug trade in the state penitentiary.

According to Durano, the drugs being sold by Espinosa and Diaz in Visayas come from one of the NBP's high-profile inmate, convicted drug lord Peter Co. (Sunnex)
