THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is urging returning Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) or their family to go into business by starting a micro endeavor as the department is promoting entrepreneurship and ready to help them.
DTI Assistant Secretary Amina Fajardo said the OFWs may go into retail trading, micro manufacturing, tourism, and other micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) with the help of Negosyo Centers (NCs) and attend entrepreneurship seminars to open their minds on the opportunities that abound in their areas.
Speaking at the grand opening of the three-day Negosyo, Konsumer at Iba Pa (NKABP) on Monday, October 10, at the Iloilo Convention Center in this city, Fajardo said the setting up of the OFW assistance desks is in compliance to the recent directive of the President in providing assistance to the OFWs, especially those displaced by the economic crisis in Saudi Arabia and in other countries.
Work in other countries is temporary and the OFWs and their families must look forward to continue earning when there is no more job placement abroad, Fajardo said.
The DTI, through the NC, is to give advice to OFWs on what business they can go into depending on their passion, skills and talents, on opportunities that abound around, and on technology available and to link them to micro finance institutions to fund their projects in case these are qualified and accepted by these financial institutions.
