Transportation office to rehab, expand Zamboanga airport

A TOP official of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced that P200 million has been allocated to rehabilitate and expand the facilities at the Zamboanga International Airport (ZIA).

DOTr Undersecretary Roberto Lim said P40 million of the P200 million appropriations will be used for the asphalt overlay project on the runway of ZIA.

Lim said the project, aimed to improve the runway, will be implemented this year.

The remaining P160 million has been earmarked for the expansion and rehabilitation of the passenger terminal building to include its facilities like the cargo conveyors, according to Lim.

He said they will also install two new x-ray scanners, and will construct a cargo building.

The expansion and rehabilitation of ZIA is in line with the current program of the DOTr to improve the airport services in the entire country.

Lim led the inspection of ZIA on Monday, October 10.

He was accompanied by the following: Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) Deputy Director-General Manuel Antonio Tamayo, DOTr Engineer Eduardo Manglili, CAAP Area Manager Mohammad Naga Rascal, and First District Representative Celso Lobregat.
