Widower, Swedish man found lifeless in own bedrooms

TWO men were found dead inside their rooms in Barangay Lorega-San Miguel and Pelaez St. in Cebu City yesterday morning.

Homicide investigators from the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) responded to a dead person alarm at 5:30 a.m. in Lorega, where the victim was identified as Leo Solon, 51. He is a widower

In an initial investigation by the police, the victim’s son said that when he woke up, he noticed that his father was already kneeling with a rope tied around his neck.

He revealed that his father has suffered complicated diabetes and tuberculosis and mostly spent his time on his bed.

An hour later, a Swedish national was also found hanging inside his hotel room in Pelaez St.

Bengt Sandberg, 65, was discovered at 6:30 a.m. with a rope tied around his neck.

According to SPO3 Rommel Bancog of the CCPO’s Homicide Section, they found no signs of struggle in the victim’s hotel room except for the towel holder at the comfort room.

“It’s a possibility that he first tried to tie the rope in the towel holder but it gave out so he did it near the door instead,” Bancog told Sun.Star Cebu.

The personnel in the hotel’s front desk said that Sandberg checked in at the hotel last Oct. 5 and would religiously pay his bill.

However, when the victim didn’t pay after several days, they decided to cut off his power supply so that he will come out of his room.

When it did not work, they tried to call Sanberg’s hotel room but no one answered.

Using a master key, the hotel personnel opened the door and found the victim already hanging from the ceiling.

He did not leave any suicide notes. His body will be subjected to an autopsy.

Bancog said they already coordinated with the Consulate of Sweden here in Cebu to facilitate the transfer of the victim’s remains.
