Baguio holds Batang Pinoy qualifiers for archery

DUE to the increasing participants for the upcoming Batang Pinoy National finals, the Baguio Archery Club will hold a qualifying and ranking tournament at the Baguio City National High School.

Archers will compete today, October 15, in the different categories featuring Baguio's best marksmen in the event co organized by SPS Archery PTA president Rubee Rose Parayno.

“This will be conducted for the archery team to evaluate and rank all those athletes we have who are eligible for the Batang Pinoy. We cannot send every one of them that’s why we need to check their capabilities for possible medals,” said coach John Hongitan.

Archers will compete in the yoeman (9 – years - old and below), bowman (12 – years - old and below), cub (14 – years - old and below), and the cadet division (15 – years – old and below).

The one-day event will also feature Olympic Rounds that includes 20 meter event for yeoman, 30 meters for the bowman, 50 meters for the cub, 60 meters for the cadet girls and 70 meters for the cadet boys.

Also included in the ranking is the team and mixed team divisions.

“We also invited new archery team like that of Brent School because they showed interest in sending also their archers in other competitions. Certificates of participation from the grassroots tournaments are required in lower type of competitions before they will allow you to participate in other tournaments like the Batang Pinoy,” Hongitan added.
