Folayang seeks end of Japanese jinx in ONE

HOPING to end the Japanese curse for Team Lakay, Eduard Folayang will not leave any stones unturned.

Folayang’s training camp is in full steam as it gears up against One Championship world lightweight champion Shinya Aoki on November 11 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

“It’s going to be an all out war,” said the wushu multi – medalist hoping to end the reign of Aoki who is defending the title for the third time.

Team Lakay in the past has fallen prey to Japanese MMA fighters chasing the One Championship belt, the latest of which was Joshua Pacio who lost to Yoshitaka Naito recently for the world strawweight belt, while in 2013, then world featherweight champion Honorio Banario suffered a second round knock out against Koji Oishi in his first title defense.

But this time around, Folayang together with coach Mark Sangiao has been closely studying their game plan against the veteran.

“We hope to finally bring home the belt and end our losing streak against Japanese fighters,” said Sangiao.

Sangiao believes Folayang has the formula to defeat Aoki in their title match having defeated highly regarded MMA Japanese fighters in Tetsuya Yamada and former One Championship lightweight champion Kotetsu Boku.

Folayang will be going head to head against the Japanese who has won nine straight bouts and a veteran of over 40 professional bouts, which includes an impressive 25 victories by submission.

After more than eight years as a professional competing in various promotions, Folayang, a wushu specialist has amassed a stellar 16-5-0 mixed martial arts record and has figured in impressive victories in his last two bouts, overcoming both Tetsuya Yamada and Adrian Pang, showcasing a highly-improved wrestling and grappling offensive arsenal.

Currently at the peak of his abilities as a combat sports athlete, Folayang will get the opportunity of a lifetime when he steps inside the cage across Aoki.
