Wall collapses in Liloan; 9 rushed to hospital

NINE construction workers landed in the hospital after the wall they were building collapsed on them in Barangay Cotcot, Liloan Friday, October 14.

The incident happened in the warehouse of Citi Hardware at 2:10 p.m. and a police official said the bad weather may have contributed.

Chief Inspector Franco Rudolf Oriol, the town police chief, told SunStar Cebu that injured persons are Lowel Batican, Bongo Cuba, Alex Rosal, Lazaro Capa Jr., Joel Procurato, Melvin Proburato, Rene Barrido, Condito Baculao, and Antonio Cuenza.

No one died during the incident.

Senior Police Officer 2 Almer Maglinte, in a phone interview, told SunStar SuperBalita Cebu said three to five workers were in critical condition.

Personnel from the Liloan Search and Rescue team and the Bureau of Fire and Protection-Liloan rushed them to a private hospital in the neighboring town of Consolacion for treatment of their injuries.

“So far, they are confined in Mendero Hospital for treatment and other examinations. Naghulat pa mi sad sa (We are waiting for) latest medical bulletin,” said Oriol.

Maglinte said the wall was about 30 to 50 meters in its width and 20 meters in length before it collapsed on the workers.

The wall possibly crumbled because of the rain in the past days, making its foundation soft.

“Kalit daw kaayo ang pagkahugno (The collapse was so sudden),” said Oriol.
