Mild encounter: An art fusion

IN THE age of globalized network, artists constantly expand their knowledge in art practice. Through this joint exhibition, Mild Encounter, insights on different art worlds and its practices endeavors to generate a new understanding and friendship between two different artist groups.

Currently at the Kapitana Gallery in Talisay City, Negros Occidental, Indonesians from Bandung, the third largest city in Indonesia, and Filipino artists are exhibiting their works.

Having met abroad previously through Jason Montinola, the friendship resulted into plans to bring their collective works to Manila and Talisay.

Mild Encounter includes several artists from Manila, Bandung, and one from Silay City, Roderick Tijing. Also, among the roster of Filipino artists is Alexander “Xian” Lim. Yes, he is the local heartthrob in the big and small screens, and thousands of fans were looking forward to his coming, but due to changes in his schedule, he had to cancel his visit to Negros. (You know,show business!).

The locals include Alexander “Xian” Lim, Ciane Javier, Jason Montinola, Martin Honasan, Nemo Aguila, Nix Puno, RJ Tijing, Renz Baluyut, and Valerie Chua. From Bandungare Bandu Darmawan, Bintang Heru, Mirfak Pabowo, Rega Rahman, and Tandia Permadi.

The Kapitana Gallery hosted a talk by curator Donny Ahmad and the Indonesians shared information on the art scene in Bandung, their manners, and styles, and sceneries of the Bandung and Indonesian art scenes.

The Kapitana Gallery through its proprietor Adrian (Adjie) Lizareshas been inviting young artists from different parts of the country, and other cities abroad to fulfill their desires to share ideas, exchange points of view, exhibit contemporary art, and create a more diverse interaction among artists and the community.
