Top drug lord Kerwin Espinosa arrested in Abu Dhabi

THE Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, Director General Ronald dela Rosa, confirmed Monday, October 17, the arrest of alleged drug lord Kerwin Espinosa in Abu Dhabi.

Dela Rosa said Espinosa, the son of the arrested Albuera Leyte Mayor Roland Espinosa, was nabbed in Abu Dhabi around 2 a.m. by the operatives from the PNP anti-illegal drugs group with the assistance from the criminal investigation and detection division and the Interpol.

"Nasa custody na siya ngayon ng Abu Dhabi police ((He's already under the custody of the Abu Dhabi police) and ready to be shipped to Manila. Tinatapos lang documentary requirements...Baka bukas pwede sila bumiyahe (They are just working on the documentary requirements. He might be flown tomorrow); if not depende sa first available flight right after the suspect is cleared to travel the Philippines," said Dela Rosa.

Dela Rosa said a Filipino overseas worker in Abu Dhabi reported Espinosa's presence in the area.

"Pumunta siya (Espinosa) doon sa mga travel agency nagpapatulong kung paano ma-extend 'yung stay doon. Doon nalaman ng mga trabahante sa building na 'yun 'yung travel agency kasi paubos na 'yung time nya. Aarestuhin siya ng pulis overstaying siya hindi ba so winoworkout nya na maextend siya. Doon siya nasunog (Espinosa went to the travel agency, asking for help on how to extend his stay there. It was when the workers discovered his identity)," he said.

Espinosa has a standing arrest warrant for charges in relation to illegal drugs and illegal possession of firearms after illegal contraband were recovered in his house in Albuera, Leyte.

The older Espinosa admitted earlier his son's involvement on illegal drug trade, particularly in Eastern Visayas
