Contractor: Trash collection schedule ‘fixed’

CONTRACTOR IPM-Construction and Development Corp. (IPM-CDC) implemented on Monday, October 17, a new set of schedule for garbage collection in various residential subdivisions in Bacolod City.

IPM-CDC Senior Vice President Jan Vincent Mercado said they already fixed the schedules and manpower to address the uncollected garbage especially in residential areas.

The IPM-CDC will collect garbage twice a week in big subdivisions, he said.

Mercado admitted that in their first two to three weeks, they experienced a manpower problem among drivers and garbage collectors.

He said they received several complaints from residents in various subdivisions, and they are doing their best to address the problem.

Mercado said they now have a total of 44 dump trucks with 51 drivers and 156 garbage collectors.

The IPM-CDC offers a good salary with benefits to truck drivers and garbage collectors, he added.

The Metro Manila-based contractor inherited uncollected garbage from its predecessor Bacolod-based Dynamic Builders and Construction Company.

IPM-CDC’s contract for collection, hauling, and disposal of garbage, and solid waste management services amounts to P59.433 million, or P14.858 million per month for the period of September 2 to December 31, 2016.

Meanwhile, Nelson Sedillo, head of Department of Public Services (DPS), said they have already prepared their monitoring report and they will submit it to the Solid Waste Management Board (SWMB).

The DPS was tasked to monitor the performance of IPM-CDC.

Councilor Ricardo Tan earlier said that on August 30, the City Council approved to grant Mayor Evelio Leonardia the authority to sign the contract with the IPM-CDC with the collatilla that the Solid Waste Management Office (SWMO) and the DPS be required to submit their monthly monitoring report and accomplishments of the contractor.

On October 2, Tan said he expected that the SWMO and DPS will submit their monitoring report for discussion in the SP session, but no report was submitted.
