ILIGAN CITY -- Acting Mayor Jeemar Vera Cruz welcomed yesterday another group of 10 Miss Earth 2016 candidates visiting this city.

The 10 candidates were Luissa Burton, England, Eszter Oczella, Hungary, Tiare Fuentes, Chile, Anzhelika Tahir, Pakistan, Klaudia Parsberg, Denmark, Suzan Amer, Iraq, Le Chiao Peng, Chinese Taipei, Crina Stinca, Romania, Sharon Enkromelle, Zimbabwe and Chantae Chanice Guy, Belize.

The candidates tasted an array of Iligan delicacies and the famous delicious lechon.

Notwithstanding security terror alert in this city, the two Agus Hydro Electric Power Plants, Agus 6 and 7, and the Maria Cristina falls were temporarily opened for the exclusive viewing of the 10 Miss Earth candidates.

The candidates said they were impressed by the grandeur of the cascading waterfalls.

Maria Cristina falls provide 80 percent of the power needs for Mindanao island.

“I have seen Mother Earth in crying when one of the places in England was hit by a flash flood and heavy rains brought about by tremendous and devastating hurricane. While I'm here I've heard more typhoons, rains and hurricanes are coming. Our Mother Earth is crying. For me it’s high time to take action and change climate change,” said England's Burton.

“People should respect Mother Earth to prevent further devastation from climate change,” said Stinca of Romania.

The entourage also visited the students of St, Michael's College and had a motorcade around the city to meet and feel the presence of thousands of Iliganons.

The candidates also took part in a mangrove tree planting in Bayug Island, a village severely hit by tropical Storm "Sendong" (Washi) on December 16, 2011. A total of 1,000 casualties were reported in the island while close to 1,000 people went missing.

The Police Philippine National Police and the 4th Mechanized Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army have provided full security measures for the next three days of their tour in this city.

On Monday, Governor Imelda Quibranza-Dimaporo hosted the first group of 10 Miss Earth 2016 candidates who visited the tourist destinations of Lanao del Norte.
