Police recover portion of teacher's stolen jewelry

THE Police Station 8 in Bacolod City recovered a portion of the jewelry stolen from the house of a teacher at Barangay Singcang-Airport, Bacolod City on Monday.

Senior Inspector Wilfredo Benoman Jr., head of Police Station 8, who did not name the victim, said suspect Joseph Bela-ong, 36, of Barangay Pahanocoy, was arrested in a hot pursuit operation in Barangay Mandalagan.

They recovered from him P71,000 worth of jewelry as he denied stealing the other missing items.

Bela-ong carted away an estimated P400,000 worth of jewelry and cash amounting to P99,000. He took from the vault inside the masters bedroom wrist watches amounting to P60,000; gold bracelet worth P80,000; gold ring worth P60,000; assorted jewelry worth P200,000; and the cash.

Benoman said nobody was home when the suspect entered the house through the main door.

The suspect was identified by the victim's neighbor, who saw him come out of the teacher's house, and boarded a motorcycle.

The suspect is included in the rogues' gallery of other police stations also for theft.
