Pampanga eyes national Gawad Kalasag award

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The Provincial Government of Pampanga through its Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) is eyeing the National Gawad Kalasag (Kalamidad at Sakuna Labanan, Sariling Galing ang Kaligtasan) award.

This came after PDRRMC Pampanga bagged the hall of fame award for the Regional Gawad Kalasag Awards given by Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in Central Luzon held recently at Subic Freeport Zone.

According to PDRRMC head Angie Blanco, the provincial government has met the qualifications and requirements for the national nomination with its infrastructure, equipment, and partnership to non-government organizations, exemplary services and practices in risk reduction management and humanitarian assistance to gain the nomination.

She said one of the notable achievements made by the provincial government recognized by the OCD was the immediate help sent to the province of Nueva Ecija during the onslaught of Typhoon Lando.

The Gawad Kalasag award is conferred by the OCD to local DRRMCs that have implemented best practices and undertaken humanitarian assistance.

The PDRRMC is promoting disaster preparation and prevention to Kapampangans rather than disaster response by educating the village officials in the province. (Philip Ocampo/Pampanga PIO)
