Drug surrenderees trained to be more effective parents

ALFONSO LISTA, Ifugao -- The Local Government Unit here through its various departments is continuously doing some activities for the benefits of drug surrenders in the municipality.

Recently, 34 drug surrenderees underwent a one-day training on Active Males Movement Against Violence and for AYOD (AMMA) conducted by the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) to enhance the knowledge, attitudes, skills of fathers as primary educators in the total development of their children.

The activity is in line with the commitment of the LGU-MSWDO and police to support the program against illegal drugs by providing trainings and psycho-social activities to help the surrenderees get away from using illegal drugs and help them become productive citizens.

The MSWDO further explained through the training, the fathers will develop positive concept of self and build on their character to become role models to their children, develop role performance, establish a more positive and satisfying relationship with their spouses as pre-requisite to effective and shared parenthood and establish support networks among fathers in the community through peer support group.

Among the topics discussed by speaker from government non-government office include understanding myself as a person, becoming your wife's best friend, promoting family spirituality, role of men in disaster management and men as vanguards of peace.

The role of men as advocates for reproductive health, drugs and gambling-free home, prevention of family violence and household financial management were also discussed to the participants.
