Pelayo: All systems go for TTKD 2016

IT'S that time of the year where people gather along the 800-meter stretch of MacArthur Highway in Balibago to celebrate the one of the most-awaited events of Fiestang Kuliat, and that's the Tigtigan Terakan Keng Dalan.

Enjoy the food trip with the barkada while strolling on this two-night street party, dance with best music and sing along with top performances from your favorite rock bands.

Thousands of people from the Philippines and overseas are expected to occupy the asphalted thoroughfare on October 21 and 22 this weekend to join the party. Popular bands like the Sandwich and the 6Cyclemind are expected to participate on these two crazy nights. And of course, our very talented local rock bands will also provide pure music satisfaction as always.

Every year, TTKD organizers come up with new ideas to have a variety for locals and tourists alike. This year, the celebration will be laser themed, and it's expected to boost our visual senses while enjoying the food and the music. It will be different from last year when 2015 showcased EDM or the electronic dance music.

But whatever the theme would be, Angelenos, Kapampangans, Filipinos, and foreigners as well, should take note on the rich history of the Tigtigan Terakan Keng Dalan.

Yes, the translation only means music and dancing in the street, but there is more than meets the eye.

The event symbolizes the resiliency of the Kapampangans in the early 90s during the wrath of Pinatubo when all was covered in sand and dust. It was by way of TTKD when people rose from the ashes and begin to move on to full recovery. It is more than plain merriment along the pavement. The event started to boost the morale of the once depressed, those who were then hopeless.

As we celebrate life this coming weekend, let us remember how our elders in the early 90s recovered from the devastating effects of Mount Pinatubo. See you on Friday and Saturday!
