Abu Sayyaf killed in Basilan clash

A SUSPECTED member of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) was killed in a clash with policemen in Lantawan, Basilan province, the police reported Friday, October 21.

Lantawan Police Chief Alfadda Osalli identified the slain suspected ASG member as Said Ummal, alias Said Usman, a resident of the village of Bulan-Bulan.

Osalli said Ummal was killed in a shootout Friday in the village of Bulan-Bulan, Lantawan that ensued in a law enforcement operation through the service of warrant of arrest.

Osalli said Ummal has standing warrant of arrests for two-count murder issued by a court in Isabela City, Basilan.

Ummal was also involved in the ambush of a police vehicle on October 2 in the village of Bulan-Bulan, Lantawan.

Police Officer 1 Anwar Batah was injured in that ambush that occurred while they were returning to the headquarters.

Before the ambush, the policemen conducted house visitations on drug surrenderees in the villge of Bulan-Bulan, Lantawan. (Sunnex)
