MANILA -- Super Typhoon Lawin's estimated damage to agriculture and infrastructure in four regions in the Philippines has reached P2 billion, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Sunday.
The damage to infrastructure and agriculture reached P1,402,245,000 and P645,515,777.90, respectively, in Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).
The NDRRMC said the cost of assistance provided by the Department of Social Welfare and Development Office and local government units to the affected families in the four regions was P10,610,407.
Lawin has also affected 48,521 families or 228,695 persons in Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, CAR, and Bicol.
Around 18,425 families or 75,408 people were still staying in 552 evacuation centers.
The NDRRMC said eight people were confirmed dead in CAR due to landslides.
The confirmed fatalities are Edgar Genese of Pangasinan, Jonie Borja of La Union, Jhon Carlos Hatap of Kibungan, Joshua Hella of Negros Oriental, Jessie Hella of Kibungan, Jay-ar Chawagan and Jeramel Alfaro of Hungduan, and Arsenio Lantaen of Benguet.
Reports of fatalities in other parts of the country have not been validated by the agency as of Sunday afternoon.
A total of 13,966 houses were damaged -- 2,025 destroyed and 11,941 damaged -- in Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, and CAR.
A total of 43 road sections and 16 bridges are still not passable. (PNA/Sunnex)
