THE Negros Occidental Provincial Government is ready to release the pay increase under the first tranche of the Salary Standardization Law (SSL) 4 for its almost 2,000 employees.
Second District Board Member Salvador Escalante, chair of committee on appropriations, budget, finance, ways and means, said that as soon as they receive the written answer on their inquiry from the Department of Budget and Management Region 6, they will release the increase immediately.
Escalante said about P50 million will be set aside for the implementation during the last quarter of the year starting this October.
Provincial Accountant Merly Fortu was tasked to inquire from the DBM-6.
Acting Provincial Administrator Leonardo Eusebio said that despite the implementation of a re-organization of its personnel, Capitol can still afford to pay a salary increase.
“Of the about 2,000 plantilla positions, not of all of them are actually filled,” Eusebio said. “We will not go over the Personal Services limit.”
The Provincial Alliance of Capitol Employees had called on Capitol officials to implement the mandated salary increase since other provinces have already started implementing it.
In February this year, then president Benigno Aquino III signed an executive order implementing the salary increases for the government officials and employees for 2016.
The SSL 4 provides for four tranches of salary increases from January 1, 2016 to January 1, 2019.
