ANTI-narcotics operatives arrested a rookie policeman, a suspected drug pusher, and an alleged junkie in a drug bust in Sitio Pailob, Barangay Sambag 2, Cebu City at 11:15 p.m. last Tuesday.
In other operations in San Fernando, Cebu City and Danao City, more than 150 grams of shabu worth at least P1 million were seized from six arrested persons.
In the Sambag 2 operation, the subject of the drug bust was Sharon Sacay Abella, who got caught with Police Officer 1 Gem Querubin and Chas Elmond Chavit.
Abella and Querubin, a beat patrol member of Mambaling Police Station, are reportedly friends, police said.
Investigators said that Querubin refused to cooperate.
Operatives of the City Intelligence Branch and City Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group (Caidsotg) seized 50.32 grams of what appeared to be methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as shabu, worth P593,776.
Senior Inspector Narrolf Tan, the Caidsotg chief, said he was stunned that Querubin was caught.
“Tawo nako ni (Querubin) sa una katong didto pa ko sa Mambaling. Wala man ni molutaw iyang pangan nga involved sa illegal drugs mao tong nakurat ko pagkakita nako niya didto (I worked with him when I was assigned to Mambaling. His name didn’t come up on a list of those allegedly involved in illegal drugs, that’s why I was surprised to see him there),” Tan told reporters yesterday.
He said that Abella can dispose of 50 to 100 grams of shabu per week based on their surveillance, which they began after a resident told the police about her activities.
Abella’s supply was reportedly sourced from the Cebu City Jail, added Tan.
Police Regional Office 7 Director Noli Taliño has ordered Cebu City Police Office Joel Doria to press charges against Querubin, who entered the service in 2010.
“Lahat ng kaso ipapatongpatong natin sa kanya, administrative at criminal case. Kakasohan natin siya (We will file administrative and criminal cases against him),” he said.
He urged other police officers who are engaged in illegal drugs to surrender.
