A FUGITIVE who escaped from the Davao Penal Colony (Dapecol) in 1995 was killed in a shootout with authorities inside his house at Zone 7, Carmen, Cagayan de Oro City, Friday dawn, October 28.
Armed with a notice of apprehension requested by the Dapecol, operatives from Police Station 8 in Lumbia surrounded the house of escaped convict Alex Clemente, 46 years old.
Senior Inspector Dennis Ebsolo, Police Station 8 Chief, said the team of five policemen ordered everyone inside the house to come out.
Ebsolo said Clemente refused to yield to authorities.
"Tungod kay gusto man nato siya madakpan atong gipalibutan iyang balay girequest man nato ang mga tawo sa sulod nga mogawas unya siya lang ang wala migawas," Ebsolso said.
Ebsolo said Clemente fired at the policemen twice, prompting the police to fire back.
Clemente sustained gunshot wounds on his body and was killed on the spot.
"Mga less than 4 mi nakapabuto unya siya (suspect) murag kaduha or katulo. Accordingly, caliber 45 ang iyang armas pero ang Soco (Scene of the Crime Operatives) raman makadetermine ana including sa gunshot wounds," Ebsolo said.
According to intelligence reports, Ebsolo said the Clemente, convicted of drug-related charges, had no regular employment and allegedly engaged in illegal drug activities.
Authorities recovered illegal drugs and the gun allegedly used by Clemente.
But Gina Daba, Clemente’s live in partner, said Clemente did not own a gun and denied police's claims that he was involved in illegal drugs, citing Clemente was an asset of various police stations.
Daba added she pleaded with authorities for Clemente’s safety, telling the policemen that she would plead with Clemente to surrender.
"Grabe akong hangyo sa mga police nga ako siyang ipa-surrender pero ilang gipusil diretso. Buotan akong bana ga drive na siya og motorela ug wala na siya anang illegal drugs," Daba said.
"God knows wala mi pusil kutsilyo rana amo and wala mi anang droga ila ranang giplantingan," Daba added.
