THE police authorities have killed an alleged kidnapper in a shootout and rescued a wounded five-year-old girl in Zamboanga del Norte.

Two other suspects, one of them wounded, were captured during the shootout, the police reported Sunday.

Senior Superintendent Edwin Wagan, Zamboanga del Norte police director, disclosed the shootout occurred around 10:30 a.m., Saturday in the village of Fatima, in the municipality of Liloy, Zamboanga del Norte.

Wagan identified the slain suspected kidnapper as Avon Panggaga, 37, resident of Sta. Maria village, Siocon, Zamboanga Del Norte.

Arrested were Farhana Mancao Eddai, 32, also of Sta. Maria, Siocon and Lauro Tejada, 34, of Mucas village, Salug, Zamboanga Del Norte.

Eddai was admitted at the Liloy Integrated Health District Hospital since she was wounded during the shootout.

Rescued was Sitte Hanifa Sappal, five, of Mucas, Salug.

Sappal was hospitalized since she was hit during the exchange of gunfire.

Wagan said the shootout ensued after one of the suspects opened fire, hitting the Mahindra police vehicle as the policemen pursued and overtook the tricycle the suspects were riding along the highway of Fatima, Liloy.

Wagan said Tejada, who was driving the tricycle, jumped off and tried to escape, but was cornered by the pursuing policemen.

Recovered from the suspects were a caliber .45 pistol with ammunition, a fragmentation grenade, tricycle and three small-sized heat-sealed plastic sachets of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as "shabu."

Wagan said the suspects abducted Sappal around noontime Friday in Mucas, Salug and was taken to the municipality of Liloy where the policemen rescued her on the next day.

The victim was located and eventually rescued through the coordinated efforts of the police, military and militia forces in the province. (Sunnex)
