City abattoir operator told to include dressed chicken

BACOLOD City Councilor Bartolome Orola, chairman of committee on markets and slaughterhouse, urged the AVM Bernardo, operator of the city's slaughterhouse in Barangay Handumanan, to include dressed chicken in the operations.

Orola, who led the inspection of the abattoir last week, said Wednesday, November 2, that the chicken line of the AVM Bernardo is not operating.

"The AVM should include dressed chicken to regulate the chicken business in the city," he said.

Orola also said he will review the memorandum of agreement between the City Government and AVM Bernardo, and added that he will check the reason why the abattoir failed to accommodate dressed chicken.

The councilor added that he will discuss the issue with the City Council to address the illegal slaughtering of chicken and pigs in various areas in Bacolod.

He is also proposing to utilize the old slaughterhouse, he added.

Orola, along with the members of Task Force Botagoy, held a meeting Wednesday to start their operation in various public markets within the week.

"There is a need to stop the illegal slaughtering to ensure the health of the public," he added.
