Honest guard returns lost cellphone

ANGELES CITY -- A security guard received commendation after returning a cell phone, which was left at the SM Cinema last week.

SM Supermalls officials commended Rolit Cuenca, nightshift supervisor of SM City Clark Customer Relations Service (CRS), for his honesty.

Leroy Barrion, SM Supermalls North Luzon Regional Customer Relations Manager, said that Cuenca and another guard from Panther Security Agency, Shift In Charge (SIC) Rizal Marimla, were clearing the Cinema 3 at around 11:00 pm on October 30 when he found an iPhone 6S on one of the seats.

Barrion said Cuenca waited for a couple of minutes inside the cinema anticipating that the owner will return for the missing mobile phone.

Unfortunately, the owner did not show up that night and this prompted Cuenca to store the electronic unit to the CRS office, said Barrion.

“He waited for a while hoping that someone will retrieve the phone but nobody showed up. SO he temporary placed the phone inside the vault at the CRS office for safekeeping,” Barrion said.

The following day, the cellphone owner -- Shiela Lujero, 25, of 207 Kata Building, Royal Palm Residence Taguig, Metro Manila appeared at the CRS inquiring for her lost iPhone 6S.

Barrion said they returned the phone to Lujero after verifying that she is the real owner.

Lujero expressed gratitude to Cuenca and to the mall management. Cuenca was given due recognition for “a job well done”, said Barrion.
