Mindanao Labor Summit slated on Friday

SOME 200 participants in Mindanao will attend the Mindanao Labor Relation Summit on Friday, November 11, at Apo View Hotel in a bid to promote social dialogue, review the decade-old labor laws, and hear proposals that will be the basis for possible amendments of existing laws.

Department of Labor and Employment (Dole)-Davao Technical Support chief Paul Cruz said during the culmination of the 27th National Statistics Month that in adherence to the four pillars of decent work, Dole-Davao will be hosting a dialogue for different stakeholders for the amendment of labor laws.

"There are already proposals to amend certain provisions and to amend the law governing contractualization," Cruz said.

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III is expected to be present during the event.

Cruz said the activity will be a platform for different stakeholders to raise their concerns in terms of labor issues especially the provisions of contractualization.

Cruz said their office has received several recommendations to further advance the welfare of employees towards achieving security of tenure and social protection.

"This is the summit wherein workers and employers would place proposed amendments of our labor code and enhance our activities and efforts to promote social dialogue and maintain industrial peace," Cruz said.

Meanwhile, the chief assured that the effort of the agency is geared towards achieving their goals for the betterment of the public.

"Dole would like to assure that our programs, projects and our activities and its corresponding success indicators are actually anchored on the pillars of decent work which is our enrolled agenda in the attainment of sustainable development goals," Cruz said.

Cruz reiterated that they are against illegal contractualization both in private and in public because it is an indecent activity.
