UNIT 5 clinched two gold medals at the start of the Davao City Athletics Association (DCAA) 2016 Meet Chess Tournament at Davao City National High School (DCNHS) Main Library.
Hareve James Sumatra and Honey Grace Buenafe captured the secondary boys and girls golds, respectively.
Sumatra edged fellow five-pointer and teammate Bhing Joel Gimony via superior tiebreaks. The latter settled for the silver while Francis Xavier Guimalan of Unit 6 had three points to take the bronze.
Buenafe, for her part, earned 4.5 points besting Queen Peralta (4.0) and Blanche Ellyz Bongato of Unit 6 (4.0) who grabbed the next two places.
Wesley Jovan Magbanua also scored perfect five points to pocket the elementary boys gold over David Patrick Belisario of Unit 6 (4.0) and Rodel Buenafe of Unit-1 (3.0).
Five-pointer Jirah Lou Andoy topped the distaff side at the expense of sister Jackie Lou Andoy (4.0) and Caerel Shane Mantilla of Unit 5 (4.0).
