No Christmas bonus for Negros Occidental Capitol employees

UNLIKE in previous years where they received an extra Christmas bonus of as much as P40,000, employees of Negros Occidental Provincial Capitol will not enjoy such benefit this year.

Provincial Budget Officer Jose Percival Salado Jr. said November 10 that Capitol employees are expected to receive only the P5,000 Productivity Enhancement Incentive (PEI) this December.

In 2015, the Capitol employees received an additional bonus of P35,000 while a year earlier, they were given P40,000.

He said this is due to “the adoption of the first tranche of Salary Standardization Law 4 (SSL 4),” adding that the bonus was replaced by the 14th month pay.

“I don’t think there will be a bonus unless President Rodrigo Duterte will give a pronouncement on that matter. It would be another story,” he said. “But if based on the SSL 4, the employees can’t expect anymore additional bonus. The 14th month pay is considered as a bonus.”

Salado said the Provincial Government workers will receive their 14th month pay and P5,000 cash gift this month.

Moreover, Salado said they will adopt the first tranche of SSL 4 this January.

He said they are currently computing the actual cost needed, which is estimated at P50 million, adding that it would be a retroactive pay for the last quarter this year.

Meanwhile, Salado said the uniform of the Capitol employees is expected to be released before the year ends.

This, after Nimrod Sarmoy, chairman of Progressive Alliance of Capitol Employees, wrote a letter to the Uniform Committee, inquiring about its status as the payment for the uniforms was already deducted from their P5,000 clothing allowance this March this year.
