Log transporter nabbed, lumbers confiscated

CAMP Bado Dangwa -- Aside from the campaign against illegal drugs, the unrelenting campaign to save and protect the remaining state of the environment in the region is continuously implemented resulting to the arrest of two transporters and the confiscation of Gemelina lumbers.

In a police checkpoint, two farmers identified as Bernie Domingo Geroche, 33, driver, a resident of Sallapadan, Abra and Julio Martinez Barcena, 64, owner of the vehicle and a resident of Lagangilang, Abra on board a Nissan van bearing license plate number WM 705 loaded with Gemilina lumbers were arrested along Abra-Kalinga road particularly in Patucannay, Bangued, Abra Thursday morning.

Personnel of Abra PPO, who are undergoing LTO Deputation Seminar were conducting checkpoint under the supervision of LTO personnel flagged down the suspects that led to their arrest after they failed to present pertinent travel documents from the DENR.

Confiscated were 26 pieces or 449 board feet of Gemilina lumbers worth Php11,236. The contraband were turned-over to CENRO Office, Bangued, Abra for proper disposition while the arrested suspects were brought to Bangued MPS for documentation prior filing of appropriate charges against them.

Police Regional office – Cordilleras regional director, Chief Superintendent Elmo Francis Sarona is appealing to the public to immediately report to the nearest police station all illegal logging activities occurring in their areas so that law enforcers can immediately respond and arrest those involved and to support the DENR in the implementation of the national government’s anti-illegal logging campaign to preserve and protect our environment.
