4 soldiers wounded in roadside bombing

FOUR government troops were injured in a roadside bombing perpetrated by suspected Abu Sayyaf bandits in the province of Basilan, an official said Monday, November 14.

The Army’s 104th Infantry Brigade Commander Cirilo Donato said the incident occurred around 9 a.m. Monday along the national highway in the village of Sabong, Lamitan City, Basilan.

Donato said four soldiers were injured when an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded while the troops were conducting foot patrol in the area.

Donato withheld the identities of the wounded soldiers except in saying they belong to the Army’s 7th Scout Ranger Company, which is under the 3rd Scout Ranger Battalion.

He said the wounded soldiers were taken to the hospital.

Explosive ordnance demolition personnel were called in and conducted clearing operation to ensure there are no other IEDs in the area.

Lieutenant Colonel Elmer Suderio, 3rd Scout Ranger Battalion commander, said the IED “was detonated on command” and the soldiers were likely the target of the attack.

Both the military and the police tagged the Abu Sayyaf bandits as the ones responsible in the roadside bombing.
