Chinese delegation explore partnership with PH

A DELEGATION of Chinese importers met with members of the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (DCCCII) on Saturday, November 12, for a possible partnership with the Davao business community.

The visit was one of the positive results of the recent visit of President Rodrigo Duterte in China last month.

“The Chinese delegation met with players from the agribusiness sector specifically those engaged in banana, fresh fruits, and vegetables exports as well as other agri-based products,” said Bonifacio Tan, president of DCCCII.

The delegation, he said, was composed of nine members of the China Chamber of Commerce of Foodstuffs and Native Produce headed by their president, Bian Zenhu.

Also present during the said meeting were DCCCII Executive Vice President Sofronio Jucutan, DCCCII vice president for Trade and Commerce and Philippine Green Farms Senior Vice President Luciano Frederick Puyod III, and MBFEA Chairman and Maduao Farms President Romy Garcia.

The businessmen were also joined by Angel Puentespina of Puentespina Orchids & Tropical Plants, Inc., Ruben See of See’s International Manufacturing Corporation, Rowena Gumtang of the Davao Hogs Association, Richard Mark delos Reyes and John Mark Betita (ARR Banana Exporters), Mona Li (Helon) and Vegetable Industry Council Of Southern Mindanao Inc. President Bong Cajes accompanied by Juvy Pregan (Department of Agriculture-Davao) and Flordelyn Saavedra (Fedco Banana Exporter).

The meeting was also joined by Engineer Preslyn Ramos of MindaTrade International Corporation, Lorena Arcenal of Solis Tropical Fruit and Liu Hong Zi of Chat Chat ABC-Affliate and STF.

Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel “Manny” Piñol said China has committed to extend the government a $6 billion loan, $1.5 billion of which will be poured for agriculture like farm-to-market roads and fisheries that includes solar-powered irrigation project, cold storage, fish landing, among others. The rest of the fund will be allocated for infrastructure.

“China has funding for us, they are allocating money for what I supposed will called the China-Philippine Rural Road Program,” he said.

The Department of Agriculture is preparing all the proposals and projects to be covered by the long term loan.
